Frequently Asked Questions
1. Can we have our ceremony and our reception at Opus 40?
Of course! You can find more information here.
2. What about our rehearsal dinner and/or post-wedding brunch?
Yes, Opus 40 is happy to host your rehearsal dinner and brunch. We have a number of suggestions for local catering to delight any palate.
3. What do the Opus 40 wedding accommodations include?
Opus 40 is a sculpture park with meadows, fountains, statues and one remarkable 6.5-acre sculpture, all surrounded by private forests and the majestic Catskill Mountains with mesmerizing sunset views.
You can host your reception, dinner and/or wedding ceremony in several bucolic locations across Opus 40’s main campus, including in our newly reclaimed, secluded Event Court.
The Main Meadow overlooking our world-famous sculpture, for instance, can accommodate up to 400 people, tents, tables and chairs, as well as a dance floor and buffets/bars, and is typically the location selected for large tented dinners and receptions.
Our Event Court offers a secluded location for your celebration, and is just steps away from the Main Meadow. This site can comfortably accommodate gatherings of upwards of 200 people.
There is also a small area for cocktails near the outdoor pool and fountain, in addition to space in the gallery and workshop.
With outdoor lighting and electrical outlets, the site offers resources for full-service catering, music, tables, chairs, serving areas and a bar.
We highly recommend site visits prior to booking your event. For more information, contact weddings@opus40.org or visit Gina Maloney Events for coordinating support.
3.5. What accommodations are NOT included?
All rentals (tables, chairs, linens, dinner service ware, etc) need to be secured from external vendors. We do not currently provide on-site transportation, and our grounds are expansive, so Golf Cart rentals are encouraged.
4. What accommodations are available for wedding party preparations?
We have an on-site space and a bathroom available for a small fee for the duration for your rental.
5. Do you have an onsite wedding planner and/or a list of wedding service providers you recommend?
Weddings and events of 50 and over require a dedicated event coordinator independent of the Bridal Party or Family. We recommend reaching out to Gina Maloney Events as a first step. She is familiar with our site and excels in beautifully curated events.
6. How many people can Opus 40 accommodate?
We can accommodate very large groups, upwards of 400 on our Main Meadow. Our Event Court site can accommodate 200 people comfortably in a 60′ x 70′ Centurian Tent.
7. Is there a kitchen available for our caterer?
We do not have a kitchen on site but can provide a 20′ x 20′ catering tent if needed. (Caterers should bring their own power source if your celebration takes place on the Event Court.)
8. Are tables, linens, chairs, plates, silverware and glassware provided, or will we have to rent them ourselves or through our caterer?
We do not have rental items on site but we are happy to recommend vendors for all of your celebration needs.
9. Can we have a live band and/or DJ at our Opus 40 wedding?
It’s not a wedding without music, and we host live performances here all the time! Our many outlets and long-distance extensions cords allow for virtually any form of wedding entertainment. The town of Saugerties prohibits amplified music after 10p, but waivers can be applied for directly with the Town Office.
10. Can we have a ceremony or cocktail party on the sculpture itself?
We do not allow chairs or events of any kind on the sculpture, however the wedding party may promenade across the sculpture as they make their way to the Main Meadow or chosen celebration location.
Photography is permitted on the sculpture.
11. What are your requirements for caterers/bartenders?
Caterers must be licensed and have insurance. Event hosts must also secure Host Liability insurance for gatherings serving alcohol. We also require that anyone serving alcohol use a certified bartender and have a liquor license. We have a list of preferred vendors for your perusal.
12. Do you have a weather contingency plan?
In the Hudson Valley, that’s a must! We recommend tents, in case of rain. During heavy storms, high winds, or lightening events we close our grounds for the safety of staff and guests, but can explore rain dates for your event.
13. How much parking do you offer, and do you charge a separate parking fee?
Opus 40 can accommodate up to 200 cars, with handicapped parking for another 25. There is no fee for parking. However, we do recommend using a shuttle service to transport guests to and from nearby towns.
14. Are there taxis to and from Opus 40?
Uber and Lyft services are typically available. Given our somewhat remote location, we highly recommend reserving vehicles in advance of your celebration.
15. Do you work with any local hotels or B&Bs for wedding parties and out-of-town guests?
There are a number of excellent places to stay in Woodstock and Saugerties — and we love Barn on the Pond and Glasco House near Opus 40, The Herwood Inn in Woodstock, Diamond Mills in Saugerties, and The Theadora in Kingston.
16. What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept payment by cash, check, or Venmo.
17. Do you have liability insurance?
Yes. However we ask all wedding parties to obtain wedding insurance with host liability inclusions. We also ask that all major vendors involved (tent rental, caterers, etc) have insurance.
18. What is your cancellation policy?
For cancellations prior to two months before the wedding date, we return the security and wedding deposit, minus a 30% cancellation fee; within two months, deposits are not refundable; within 15 days, refunds are not available.
19. Do you have a list of couples who’ve used Opus 40 for their wedding?
Yes, our site features a number of testimonials from happy couples who’ve been married on our grounds, and we’d be happy to share others if you’re interested.
