Job Title: Site Steward
Location: Opus 40, Saugerties NY
Reports To: Site Supervisors, Operations Director

As a Site Steward, you’ll be the first point of contact with Opus 40 for many of our guests, ensuring a welcoming, safe, and informative experience for all visitors. This dynamic role combines guest services, retail operations, grounds maintenance, event support, and safety oversight. Our Site Stewards are engaging communicators who are committed to enhancing the visitor experience through a proactive approach to hospitality and stewardship.

Availability Preferred

Thursday’s through Monday’s from 9:30a-5:30p

Occasional evening hours may be required for Special Events.

Compensation

$16 hr

Site Stewards Support:

• Guest Services & Ticketing
  • Greet visitors with warmth and enthusiasm, creating a friendly, informative first impression of Opus 40.
  • Share engaging stories and essential information about the park’s sculptures, natural features, and historical significance.
  • Answer questions regarding park amenities, event schedules, and offer general information to enhance our visitor’s experience.
• Retail Operations 
  • Support the Gift Shop by processing transactions, maintaining inventory, and ensuring a neat, inviting space for our guests that highlight unique, locally crafted products.
• Safety, Security, & Serenity
  • Champion a safe and secure environment while maintaining the park’s relaxed, inviting atmosphere, promptly addressing any safety concerns or incidents in a firm, but friendly way.
  • Uphold park guidelines and protocols, assisting with crowd control and managing access to sensitive areas when necessary, ensuring that everyone can enjoy a beautiful day at Opus 40.
• Event & Grounds Support
  • Provide support for a range of exciting events, including setup, breakdown, and on-site guest assistance for concerts, fairs, special events, workshops, and tours.
  • Assist with general grounds maintenance tasks and seasonal landscaping/gardening to maintain and enhance Opus 40’s aesthetic.
• Additional Duties
  • Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned to support the overall operations and mission of Opus 40.
  • Engage in continuous learning about the Opus 40’s history, current community offerings and contribute ideas to enhance visitor engagement.

Ideal Candidates Have:

• Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent… or close to it! 
  • Relevant experience in customer service, retail, or park operations is terrific.
  • Previous experience in hospitality, event support, or similar roles is a plus.
• Skills & Abilities
  • Excellent communication skills, with a friendly and approachable demeanor.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask in a dynamic environment.
  • Basic sales and cash handling experience, with attention to accuracy and customer satisfaction.
  • A proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues related to guest safety and site maintenance.
  • Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and occasional extended hours during special events.
• Physical Fitness
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, and perform outdoor tasks in varying weather conditions.
  • Comfortable with light physical work, including lifting and moving up to 20 pounds as needed.

  • A passion for art, nature, and community engagement. Our Stewards are creative, energetic, and eager to contribute to a unique cultural landmark.

Work Environment

The Site Steward will work both indoors in the gift shop and outdoors throughout the park, interacting with a diverse group of visitors. The role requires a blend of customer service, sales, event support, and outdoor maintenance, making it ideal for nature lovers and creatives of all types.
