Field Trips and School Tours
Opus 40 offers a range of resources to schools and educational groups. We welcome students of all ages from public and private schools, homeschooling groups, alternative schools, colleges/universities and adult education courses for school/class field trips and tours.
We are happy to coordinate with educators to apply for transportation and field trip funding. We also have a set of lesson plans (for grades 1 to 12) that are designed for site visits and can include follow up classroom lessons, depending on the needs of the school. These lesson plans were developed by educators, and can be modified to work with specific learning and classroom goals as well as common core requirements. Subjects offered including birdwatching, creative writing, drawing, earth sciences and geology, mapmaking, photography, and stone work. We also offer on-site weekend workshops throughout the year targeted for younger learners.
For non-adult groups, one adult chaperone is required for every six children under 12 or every 10 adolescents between 13 and 17. All visiting groups must also adhere to Opus 40’s safety rules.
When planning a school trip to Opus 40, we recommend scheduling an alternative date in case of inclement weather; while we can still host groups in any non-storm weather, areas of the sculpture may be slippery when wet, so groups with younger children should strongly consider rescheduling.
Please note that we have adjusted our visiting hours and protocols due to COVID-19.
