Happy 2021 from Opus 40!
This first momentous month of the new year has come to a close. Now, we reflect back on 2020, and the ways in which Opus 40 has shifted in order to accommodate the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, and look with anticipation towards the forms our organization will take in 2021.
Opus 40 Responds to the 2020 COVID-19 Pandemic
With an eye towards community-building in a time of crisis, in 2020, Opus 40 was able to creatively pivot in order to bring the joys of art and nature to as many people as possible. Socially-distanced site visits allowed us to remain open year-round and offer events such as live music performances on the weekends, holiday markets, and outdoor artists’ exhibits. We created Opus Online, a series of virtual events and offerings which broadened the geographical scope of our community to include performers from as far away as Italy, Egypt, and India. And we offered free tickets to essential workers and local library patrons, and our space to use, free of charge, for local businesses and organizations.
Keeping Opus 40 open as a cultural salve for our community as we navigated this unusual time was important to us—and it seems you agreed! In 2020 we more than doubled our membership base, welcomed 20,000 visitors to socially distanced micro-events and visits, and over 2,000 others more to our virtual programs. Additionally, we garnered $26,000 in new foundation grants, as well as a new grant from the New York State Council on the Arts. We are so grateful to our guests, and especially our donors, for their support and belief in our mission.
Opus 40 Looks Ahead to 2021
Opus 40 is formally closed to the public this winter. However, we are offering limited members-only days and semi-private visits if you would like to visit us during this time. These visits allow you and a group (no more than 5 people total) to explore the sculpture park with no more than one other group present, adhering, as always, to social distancing guidelines.
We hope to open again in April 2021, depending on weather and COVID conditions.
Looking forward to seeing you soon!
