Opus 40 Educational Workshops & Classes

Opus 40 offers a range of educational workshops and classes that resonate with our remarkable site — courses related to the environmental biodiversity and the geology of the site, the dry-stone masonry techniques used by Harvey Fite, and the restorative spirit of the space for wellness.
Nature Walks & Trails: We offer historic Quarry Walking Trails — some left by the quarrymen for hauling bluestone and some that have been developed by Tahawus Trails for increased access. All trails circle through former quarries, forest, and meadows, offering a chance to step back in time and see the quarrying landscape as it was 100 years ago. We enliven our trails with NATURE WALKS, outdoor workshops and classes, and guided tours. However you decide to visit, we hope you will include forays into nature as part of your experience.
Dry Stone Masonry Workshops: In 2022, we added a training wall where expert dry stone masons teach methods similar to those used by Fite and so many other wallers over the centuries. We also offer a walking tour of the quarry through the eyes of a stone mason. Find out more HERE.
Yoga & Qigong: Yoga & Qigong on the meadow with a backdrop of Opus 40 and Overlook Mountain is serenity personified. Join us in the quarry to reflect, renew, and restore. Weekends May 16 to September 6.
