April

March 28 & 29 10 AM     Volunteer for Earth Day: Site & Trail Clean-up and Pizza Party. Join us for as we celebrate our own earth day with walks, trail and site clean up, and wine and pizza!

April 4 1 PM     Spring Stomp! Procession with Music & Dance. Artists will lead a musical, costumed woodland romp through the Opus 40 trails to cast off winter and ring in the spring. We’ll provide bells, horns and costumes, and you can also bring your own. Afterward, we’ll gather around the fire for hot drinks and rustic food.

April 25 & May 3     Banner-Making Workshop with Roberto Rossi. Learn a range of techniques and make banners for the Opus 40 2020 Season, as well as your own celebration and collection.

April 4 — May 24       Gallery: Botanical Arts Press Spring Exhibit. Opening Reception April 4, 4 PM

May 9 11 AM     Mapmaking Workshop with Elka Gotfryd. Walk the site and make gorgeous maps that we will keep on site to display and offer visitors.

May 23 6 PM     Sweet Saturday Concerts: Live Balkan Brass with Max’s New Hat

May 30 — July 11     Hudson Valley Stories Workshop: A six-week class (1 to 4 PM on Saturdays)  on finding your voice.

May 24 — July 5     Gallery: Flash Pride: New Work from Lola Flash. Opening Reception May 30, 5 PM

Opus 40 Event: Performative Sound Installation with Paul WaldeJune

June 13 7:30 PM     Paul Walde Sound Installation. In collaboration with One Mile Gallery, Opus 40 presents the American premier of Paul Walde’s Composition for Light, Percussion, and Ultrasound, a live performative sound installation last presented in 2011.

June 14 11 AM     Nature Walk: Foraging for edibles with Mallory O’Donnell. Join Mallory O’Donnell for a brisk walk and thorough introduction to edible plants, with a focus on understanding the quintessence of plants and issues of sustainability and ethical harvest. Wild food and beverages provided.

June 19 — 22     Solstice Workshop with Herwood Inn. A two-day workshop (with option for lodging at Herwood Inn) fusing contemplative meditation, sound healing, symbolism, art therapy, aromatherapy and movement, with the goal of sharpening intention and learning how to manifest it. All will receive personalized sigil artwork and custom-crafted essential oil blend. Workshop includes guided walking tour of Opus 40 and outdoor fire ceremony.

July 5 4:30 PM    Sunday Afternoon Jazz/Folk: The Shaker with Simi Stone. Poetry and music intertwine in the work of The Shaker, a dynamic, newly formed folk-punk group from upstate New York. Watch the sun set over our world-famous sculpture and the majestic Catskill Mountains as The Shaker performs live on the Opus 40 meadow.

July 10 6 PM     Sunset Series Concert #1 with WDST/Radio Woodstock. A series of concerts including rock, jazz, reggae and more with food & wine/beer trucks and local vendors. Join us for a summer classic.

July 14 6 PM     Sweet Saturday Concerts:  Spanglish Fly & film We Like It Like That. An evening of Latin Boogaloo, featuring a live performance from Spanglish Fly, preceded at 4 PM by a screening of We Like It Like That: The Story of Latin Boogaloo and conversation with New York Institute of Technology Professor Jonathan Goldman, Ph.D., a musician and well-known fan of the genre. Film at 4 PM Concert at 6 PM.

July 19 11 AM     Nature Walk for Children. A guided walk across Opus 40 for young people ages six through 12, led by writer, educator and walker Julia Sforza, with discussion of basic natural identification, invasive plant species and the importance of careful observation, as well as time for writing personal observations of the natural surroundings.

July 24 6 PM    Sunset Series Concert #3 with WDST/Radio Woodstock. A series of concerts including rock, jazz, reggae and more with food & wine/beer trucks and local vendors. Join us for a summer classic.

July 25 6 PM     Sweet Saturday Concerts: Navatman Indian Music & Dance. Based in New York City, Navatman is known for its critically acclaimed productions, dynamic dance company and stellar music ensemble, empowering the individual to nurture his or her personal evolution through interactions with the Indian classical performing arts.

August 1 & 2     Divine Inspiration Healing Fair and Gamelon Concert. A two-day fair featuring music, delicious food, a range of healing practitioners and vendors.

August 7, 6 PM     Sunset Series Concert #4 with WDST/Radio Woodstock. A series of concerts including rock, jazz, reggae and more with food & wine/beer trucks and local vendors. Join us for a summer classic.

August 9, 4 PM     Sunday Afternoon Jazz Concerts: Roberto Rodriguez and friends. Cuban klezmer music with lots of drums.

August 14, 6 PM     Sunset Series Concert #5 with WDST/Radio Woodstock. A series of concerts including rock, jazz, reggae and more with food & wine/beer trucks and local vendors. Join us for a summer classic.

August 15, 6 PM    Sweet Saturday Concert: Wind of Anatolia Concert. Wind of Anatolia performs live traditional, classical and popular Turkish music on the Opus 40 meadow.

August 16, 11 AM     Nature Walk for Children. August 30 4 PM     Sunday Afternoon Jazz: The Swingaroos. Whether paying tribute to classic Hollywood, the Great White Way or beloved Big Bands of the 30s and 40s, lighthearted sextet replica of Golden Age ‘territory bands’ The Swingaroos bring unmatched musicianship and irrepressible cheer.

Labor Day Weekend     Voter Registration On Site!

September 5, 2 PM    Experimental Dance Workshop with Akim Funk Buddha. An exploration of body, space, time, energy and relationship. Guided by the exploration of our personal stories, muscle memory, legacies and other themes as a basis for movement experiences.

September 5, 6 PM     Sweet Saturday Concert: Akim Funk Buddha & Bonsai Lab ( A Holistic Hip Hop school of integrated arts). A Silent Opera Tea Ceremony. This presentation will fuse a new work called Silent Opera originating with Akim’s recent travels to Japan with Urban Tea Ceremony.

September 6,  2 PM     Unorthodox voice and chant workshop with Akim Funk Buddha. Using vocal techniques and interactive games, we will learn how to expand the horizons of our voices.  We will also explore the art of vocal percussion/ beat boxing. The method making beats, rhythms and melodies using one’s mouth.

September 17 — 21     Hudson Valley Stories Workshop. Spend five days working deeply on the telling of stories as we commune with the outdoors during harvest season.

September 20, 11 AM     An Autumn Hike for Wild Food. The bounty of trees — from conifer needles and the sap of maples and birch to the edible leaves of deciduous trees and the teas and tinctures that can be made from their bark — has historically been undervalued. Mallory O’Donnell leads and informative autumn foraging walk.  Wild food & beverages included.

September 10 — Oct 31    Pamela J. Wallace Exhibit. Opening Reception September 11, 5 PM

October 17, 5 PM     Peak Foliage Wild Earth Party. An outdoor party with live music as well as delicious local food and wine to celebrate the coming of Autumn.

October 24, 10 AM     Halloween Festival Day. Pumpkin carving, scary stories by the fire pit, s’mores and more!

  • WDST Sunset Sessions: Free concerts as the sunsets behind beautiful Overlook Mountain.
  • Sunday Afternoon Jazz Concerts: Jazz, folk, swing and more on warm Sunday afternoons.
  • Nature Walks & Workshops: Classes, guided nature walks and workshops that make use of the natural bounty of Opus 40.
  • Yoga, Sundays at 4 PM Spring series May 17 through June 28th and again in the Fall.
